Abstract

Six children with constant esotropia in which active discharges from the medial recti were demonstrated bilaterally by electromyography under general anesthesia were treated orally with prifinium bromide. Clinical improvement was not obvious after treatment for six to eight weeks. However, in all cases the active discharges from the medial recti under general anesthesia disappeared after treatment and the eyes assumed a more divergent position than previously under general anesthesia. In five of the six cases an increase in the discharges from the lateral recti was seen along with the disappearance of the active discharges from the medial recti under general anesthesia.
