Abstract

A case of neuromyelitis optica is reported showing, since two years up to now, a benign course with complete recovery of all functional disturbances. An acute onset with high lumbar cell count and relatively fast and complete recovery from all signs and symptoms, especially the normalization of the VER, EEG and vestibular functions, clearly distinguish this case from other demyelinating diseases, particularly from multiple sclerosis with acute onset. It also suggests that careful neurophysiological measurements can greatly help in evaluating the — like in this case benign — prognosis.
