Abstract
Four cases of orbital cephalocele are reported. Two patients with anterior orbital cephaloceles had a typical facial appearance of wide nasal root, hypertelorism and increased bitemporal diameter. Pictures of the bony hiatus and the cephalocele with its pedicle were clearly shown both roentgenographically and surgically. The association with frontal sinus agenesis in both cases has not been reported previously. Two patients with posterior orbital cephaloceles typically presented with a pulsating eye and variable proptosis. One was due to neurofibromatosis with sphenoid dysplasia, the other was produced by an osseous defect of the orbital apex. Both anterior and posterior cases showed marked osseous remodeling of the orbital wall. Pathogenesis is discussed.
