Abstract

Gaze-evoked amaurosis is a transient loss of vision during eccentric gaze of particular direction. It has been widely considered as pathognomonic of intrinsic orbital disease. The authors report a case of gaze-evoked amaurosis (scotoma) in metastatic orbital tumor. The patient had a normal visual acuity and visual field in primary position. Goldmann perimeter examination revealed a transient cecocentral scotoma on rightward gaze which had not been noticed by the patient. Irradiation applied to the right orbital area diminished the size of the mass, and improved the disc edema and gaze-evoked scotoma. Careful examination may reveal unnoticed gaze-evoked central scotoma in orbital disease.
