Introduction of New Editor for the Journal of Asthma

, M.D.

I am very enthusiastic about assuming the role of Editor of the Journal of Asthma. My predecessor, Dr. David Tinkelman, has been very effective in developing a quality journal that has international appeal over the past 20 years and congratulations on his efforts. Dr. Tinkelman has established very high standards for this journal and I am honored that he has chosen me to pass the torch of responsibility to further develop the journal's appeal and stature. The Journal of Asthma was first established in 1963 and the first year only published two volumes. It has now grown to 10 issues each year. The Journal of Asthma is extensively indexed by numerous Abstracting and Indexing Services. It is currently ranked 11 out of 16 in the asthma category and is ranked 25 out of 34 in the respiratory system category in the ISA Science Journal Citation Report. Its current impact factor is 1.476.

As Editor, I feel that the Journal of Asthma can address many unmet needs, which include a forum for well written novel index medical case reports, letters to the editor, as well as quality original manuscripts that address not only topics related to asthma but also other chronic respiratory and immunologic disorders. I think it is important that the Journal continue to publish excellent monthly reviews on relevant cutting edge topics in asthma, rhinitis, allergy and immunology. However, for the Journal to grow and thrive, it is necessary that the number of associate editors and editorial board participants are increased. It is my vision that the Journal of Asthma will continue to compliment other journals that are publishing articles in the respiratory field and will continue to have a broad multi-disciplinary and international appeal.

I look forward to leading a new era for the Journal of Asthma. I invite you to submit either a relevant review article or an original manuscript to the Journal of Asthma for consideration and am open to all suggestions and comments on how we can continue to improve the journal.
