Pages 189-191 | Published online: 02 Jul 2009

Abstract

Atopic dermatitis, eczema, presents a complicated syndrome in children past the age of 2 years. In those children whose eczema persists past this age, there will be a large number who develop other atopic diseases such as asthma or hay fever. Glaser estimates that 53% of such children will develop asthma and in a group of children followed from 13 to 22 years, Vowles, Warin, and Apley reported that 73% developed asthma, allergic cough, or seasonal hay fever.
