Abstract

30-SECOND THOUGHTS Abstracts of Abstracts

The essence of new publications in the field relevant to asthma is presented in fewer than 60 words to provide sufficient data impact for critical consideration and thought. Alphabetized descriptor terms should facilitate cross-reference and further study.

Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) 750 mg, administered intravenously in 100 subjects 13- 74 years old (76 men, 24 women; 34 allergic asthmatics, 10 intrinsics, and 56 with obstructive chronic bronchitis) who had no history of aspirin sensitivity, results in measurable bronchodilation in 14 of the subjects within 5 to 10 minutes. The onset of bronchodilation in these subjects was faster than the occurrence of bronchoconstriction in aspirin-sensitive individuals. It reached a plateau in about 2 hours and remained stable for several hours.
