Abstract

Four patients with breast abscesses developed during lactation were successfully treated by ultrasonically guided percutaneous drainage under local anaesthesia. Three patients continued nursing during and after the period of treatment and 2 patients were treated as out-patients. The cosmetic results were excellent. No recurrence of abscess was observed followig the treatment. Ultrasonically guided percutaneous drainage as an alternative to surgery is discussed.
