Abstract
Congenital genuine ptosis is caused by dystrophic-sclerotic changes in the anterior section of the levator palp. sup. muscle including its aponeurosis and would seem to be the most frequent form of congenital ptosis. The operation is performed from the cutaneous side. It involves removal of the pathological parts of the levator muscle and re-insertion of the remaining parts of the muscle in the tarsus. A normal eyelid margin is shaped during the suturing. Both the immediate results of the operation and the result noted 12 months or more after the operation are very satisfactory. Excellent results have been noted for 84 patients and good results for 32 of the 125 patients, 72 of whom were treated for unilateral and 53 for bilateral ptosis.
