Abstract
The follow-up examination of 204 surgically managed basal cell carcinomas gave a recurrence rate of 4%. When the operation was assessed as radical both macroscopically and microscopically, the recurrence rate was 1% only. Macroscopically assessed radicalness proved to be incorrect on microscopical control in about 10% and prognostically unreliable. Microscopical evaluation was in good correlation with the late prognosis and was clearly more reliable.
