Abstract
After a short description of the general problems in kinesiological recording, the various means of objective assessment of motion are surveyed. Photography and cinematography have been widely used, as well as various devices for event-marking, notably switches and light-flashes. When the task is recording of individual joint motion, the electrogoniometer is probably the instrument of choice. Elgons are classified in first, second and third generations, viz. for recording of motion about one axis in one joint, in two or more joints and for recording of arbitrarily moving members. Finally possible future developments are sketched.
