Reduction Mammaplasty Based on Vertical Vascular Bipedicle and “Tennis ball” Assembly: A Different Approach

Abstract

Some thoughts on the general approach to mammaplasty are presented. The salient hemispherical feature in the complicated shape of the female breast is stressed. Further, a different operative technique is outlined using accurately curved incisions, lateral and medial “en bloc” resections, and the preservation of a vertical bipedicled flap to carry the nipple and increase the central prominence of the breast. Thirty cases have been operated upon with no complications due to vascular insufficiency of the pedicle. The principles applied in this technique differ considerably from most techniques in use.
