Abstract

The authors have evaluated 204 case histories of patients having the Abbe flap operation performed in the Cleft Palate Center of the Westdeutsche Kieferklinik from 1952–1972. This included patients operated upon for tumor and trauma as well as cleft lip. Ninety-six patients were re-examined at the clinic and data concerning surgery, complications, anatomical, functional and aesthetic results were obtained. Suggestions for the use of the operation, the optimal performance of the procedure and today's indications for surgery are given.
