Histamine Metabolism in Burn Injuries

Abstract

The urinary excretion of histamine, methylhistamine and methylimidazoleacetic acid was measured in ten patients with burn injuries. There was no early increase in urinary excretion of histamine or methylhistamine. It is concluded that a change in histamine metabolism immediately following a burn injury is not a constant finding. In some patents there were late pronounced variations in histamine metabolism. These changes may be caused in part by general metabolic changes in the body.
