Otoacoustic emissions and the categorization of cochlear and retro-cochlear lesions

Abstract

There are only some cochlcar and retro-cochlear lesions that could be detected using a simple measurement of otoacoustic emissions. A simple description of the various lesions that lead to hearing loss and disruption of emissions is presented, a basis for categorizing cochlear and retro-cochlea r lesions is discussed, and the types of clinical symptoms likely to be associated with each type of lesion are outlined.
