Bechterew's disease in women

Abstract

The clinical picture of Bechterew's disease in 100 males and 60 females was compared in patients admitted to hospital because of an unsolved differential diagnostic problem. Though the classical cases - usually seen in males - were eliminated in advance, the clinical picture in females is milder than in men. The disease form is usually peripheral, vertebral changes develop slowly, and the functional ability remains good for a long time.
