Abstract
In this study immunoglobulin (Ig) production in vitro by persons who had suffered from reactive arthritis and in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) was evaluated. The main results were that persons who had suffered from yersinia arthritis had depressed Yersinia-induced total Ig production in vitro as compared with those who had recovered from yersiniosis without getting arthritis, suggesting an altered immunoregulation in yersinia arthritis. When peripheral blood lymphocytes were studied, AS patients and persons who had suffered from yersinia arthritis showed no predisposition to a higher total IgA response than normal controls, whereas in AS the PWM-stimulated IgM response was depressed.
