Abstract
Soft tissue swelling and tenderness of the calf is normally interpreted as evidence of thrombophlebitis, abscess, or tumour (1, 2, 3). The purpose of this article is to present a case in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis, where an accumulation of metal corrosion products from a total knee prosthesis in a giant synovial cyst were misdiagnosed from the radiographs and computerized pictures as an intramuscular tumour.
