(Editor in Chief)

In an Editorial for the Journal of Medical Engineering and Technology, volume 38, numbers 5-6, 2014, we announced that we were beginning an exciting time for the Journal. In the continuing process of publishing up-to-date scientific papers we were going to produce a special edition of the Journal each year, which would concentrate on a particular topic and also we would publish articles in what we considered to be new areas of relevance. The latter began with a paper from Dr Mario Kossmann on the Significance of Requirements Engineering for the Medical Domain [Citation1]. In this present issue we are publishing the first of our annual Special Issues entitled Devices for Dignity (D4D) with guest editors Professor Wendy Tindale from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. This is a nationwide initiative funded by the National Institute for Health Research, and focusses on the dignity and independence of the patient in areas of renal technology, assistive and rehabilitative technologies and urinary continence management.

In preperation for publication in 1916 is a special issue entitled “eHealth in Developing Countries”, with guest editors Professor Lionel Tarassenko and Dr Gari Clifford from the University of Oxford, to be followed by a third entitled “Bio-Inspired Technology” with guest editors Professor Chris Toumazou and Dr Pantelis Georgiu from Imperial College, London. We hope you agree that this is an exciting time for the Journal and that you will follow these special editions with interest. The journal would welcome any further suggestions for special issues . These should be sent to the Editor-in Chief for consideration by the Editorial Board.
