Abstract
The 16 amp plug and socket system which has been proposed by the International Electrotechnical Commission as an international system is discussed with particular reference to its use in UK hospitals. The author concludes that in certain respects, particularly safety and routine servicing of equipment, the proposed system is inferior to the 13 amp fused plug system used at present in the UK.
