Abstract

A technique for measuring the elasticity and thickness of cartilage in living man during orthopaedic operations is reported. The apparatus essentially consists of a device for attaching the elastometer to the bone, and force and displacement transducers. The signals from the transducers are converted and then read on a numerical display, finally the relationship is visualized on an XY-recorder.
