Pages 117-127 | Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

From time to time we publish extracts from the evaluation issues of ‘Health Equipment Information’ (‘HEI’), published by the UK Departments of Health and Social Security. This report contains extracts from ‘HEI’ 166 on the evaluation of each of the following heat and moisture exchangers:

Engström Edith; Gibeck Humid-Vent 1 and Trach-Vent; Icor Vent Aid 1C 101, Humid 1C 102 and Track Aid 1C 103; Mallinckrodt In-Line and Foam-Nose; Pall Ultipor BB50T and BB22-15; Siemens Servo Humidifiers 150 and 151; and Vitalograph BS Vapour Condenser.

The evaluations are part of a comprehensive programme of evaluation of humidifiers for medical use being undertaken by the Anaesthetics Department, Dudley Road Hospital, Birmingham, UK under the direction of Dr B. Hayes. Earlier reports are ‘HEI’ 103 (disposable humidifiers), ‘HEI’ 128 (ultrasonic type) and ‘HEI’151 (heated type).

The full report, Evaluation of heat and moisture exchangers – ‘HEI’ 166 (May-June 1987), should be consulted before purchasing decisions are made. It may be obtained from DHSS Leaflets Unit, PO Box 21, Stanmore, Middlesex, UK
