The commercialization of an intravascular oxygen sensor

Abstract

I should first explain a little of my own role in the commercialization of a neonatal catheter oxygen sensor. The best way I can describe the role is that of the ‘professional butterfly'. I have floated gently between the people with the ‘germ of an idea', carrying the pollen from those with the resources (mainly money) to ‘fertilize’ the seeds of ideas which can then develop into the products of tomorrow. Butterflies, of course, have highly developed senses of sight and smell, for example they can see in the ultraviolet and sniff out scents which are undetectable to most people. This means that they are highly selective in their approach to pollination, and thus more successful at it than other more random approaches such as sticking your stigma into the wind.
