Pages 177-180 | Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

The risks of infection in servicing medical and hospital laboratory equipment are reviewed. Recommended procedures and precautions for dealing with these risks are detailed. These are based upon the practice adopted in the authors’ own department. A ‘permit to work’ scheme is not felt to be universally applicable and the guiding criteria to judge any applied procedure are set down.
