Pages 185-188 | Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

As part of the continuing comparative evaluation programme of medical equipment sponsored by the UK Health Departments, the evaluation of dialysis equipment is being carried out within the University of Sheffield. Safety and performance assessments are carried out by the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering, and incorporate the results of testing by the Medical Equipment Laboratory of the British Standards Institution. User assessment was carried out in hospitals in the Sheffield Health Authority.

The following is a review of Health Equipment Information (HEI) number 182, published in March 1988. It is the sixth in the series and contains evaluation reports on a further four haemodialysis systems. These are the Drake Willock 480, the Fresenius A1008D, and the Organon Teknika Redy 2000.

The following is intended as a simple guide to choosing equipment suitable for haemodialysis, and may not take into account particular user requirements. Prospective purchasers are advised to refer to the ful1 published reports.

Health Equipment Information is issued by the UK Department of Health, and is free to Health Service Personnel. Copies can also be purchased from: DH (Leaflets), PO Box 21, Stan more HA7 1AY, UK.
