Abstract

The detection of abnormal hemoglobins in Europe has been the result of both systematic surveys and isolated observations. From these data it can be concluded that the presence of hemoglobin variants is an infrequent phenomenon, except for a few Southern Europe enclaves of hemoglobin S (1).
