A Third American Black Family with Hb J Bangkok; Association of Hb J Bangkok with Hb C

Abstract

Hb J Bangkok (β56 Gly → Asp) has been identified in individuals from several South-East Asian populations (1-4). Two reports have also described the identification of Hb J Bangkok in American blacks (5,6). We recently had the opportunity to study another black family with this hemoglobin variant, including a child with both Hb J Bangkok and Hb C. In this communication we describe the hematologic findings of this doublyaffected individual.
