Hemoglobinopathies in Yugoslavia

Abstract

Yugoslavia is a country of 256, 410 square kilometers and 22,950,000 inhabitants. It consists of six constituent republics and two provinces. The population is mostly of Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, and Macedonian nationalities. Minor ethnic groups, such as Albanian, Turkish, Hungarian, Romanian, Gypsy, and others, represent 9% of the population.
