Pages 185-189 | Received 19 Oct 1982, Accepted 08 Feb 1983, Published online: 07 Jul 2009

Abstract

Hb Korle Bu (β73 Asp → Asn) is believed to have had its origin in West Africa (1,2). This mutant has also been identified among the black population of the United States (3), as well as in the West Indies (4,5) and South America (6). In this communication we report the identification of Hb Korle Bu in a Mexican Indian family from Durango, and in addition we describe an easy and specific method for confirming the presence of this variant.
