Abstract

A fast-moving abnormal hemoglobin was detected in a survey of cord blood (1). The propositus was girl baby born at full term to healthy parents. An older sister, a brother, her mother, and her maternal grandparents were available for family study. The same variant hemoglobin was found in the sister, mother and grandfather. Although the propositus and her family live in Hyogo Prefecture, her grandparents and their ancestors have lived in Yamaguchi Prefecture for generations.
