Abstract

A fast-moving γ chain variant was discovered in the cord blood of a newborn during a screening program carried out in the northern region of Calabria, Southern Italy. The structural analysis showed a Gly→Glu substitution at position 25 of the ^Gγ chain indicating a new fetal hemoglobin variant that was named Hb F-Cosenza.
