The Sickle Haplotypes in Guadeloupe and the African Gene Flow

Abstract

An interesting article by Keclard and coworkers (1) on the β-globin gene cluster haplotypes appears in this issue. Of particular interest is the examination of the data as to its potential use to understand the forced migrations of Africans to the American continent by comparing the results with the historical record. In the process, we could also learn about the effect of haplotypes on clinical severity.
