Abstract

The effect of the suspending agents sodium carboxy-methylcellulose, bentonite and agar on the bioavailability of erythromycin ethylsuccinate mixtures has been studied in twelve healthy volunteers. Bentonite and agar reduced the absorption whereas sodium carboxymethylcellulose seemed to improve it. Drug-additive interaction could account for the observations and possible mechanisms are discussed.
