Abstract
A semiautomatic sampling and analysis system (SASAS) has been developed for dissolutions of formulations containing a UV(VIS) absorbing active ingredient. The basis of the system is a peristaltic pump which transfers samples from the dissolution vessels to a flow cell in a UV(VIS) spectrophotometer. Sample selection is performed by the analyst, reducing processing time to less than 30 seconds per sample. SASAS was first applied to Theophylline tablets and sustained release capsules at a cost of $700. As many as 36 samples were tested by one analyst concurrently.
