Abstract
The deafness caused by professional noise is a professional disease in France. The problems about its prophylaxis have not yet been completely solved. Since 1957 in the Audio-Phonology Institute at Lyon work has been done as to now to the effects of the diseases of the middle ear after determinating professional deafness. These observations enabled us to assert that a chronic injury of the middle ear (chronic otorrhea, otosclerosis or adhesive otitis) is not a determinating element for a patient who is exposed to noise. These diseases of the middle ear being exposed to professional noise do not show a greater labyrinthic injury than those which are not exposed to noise.
