Abstract

Primary malignant solid tumors outside the central nervous system occur in fewer than 2/100,000 cases annually in children and young adults under the age of 21 years (1). Despite a steady improvement in survival of children with cancer over the past two decades, most significantly in Wilms' tumor, Hodgkin's disease, and leukemia, only modest improvement has been achieved in children with sarcomas.
