Obsessional Symptoms and their Relevance in Schizophrenia

Pages 589-596 | Published online: 12 Jul 2009

Abstract

The need to distinguish genuine obsessions from apparently similar states is discussed from a phenomenological and psychoanalytic point of view. Four case-histories are presented to illustrate obsessive-compulsive symptoms associated with different nosological entities; signs of hidden psychosis, particularly non-regressive schizophrenia, are discussed. Psychological tests are performed using techniques well adapted for the differentiation of neurotic and psychotic reactions.
