Skandinaviske Synspunkter På DSM-III

Abstract

A short survey is presented on the main diagnostic concepts in DSM-III, which differ from those in ICD-8 and ICD-9. The atheoretical approach and multifactorial classification are mentioned. Most controversial for psychiatrists in Scandinavia will probably be the less distinct separation between psychotic and non-psychotic disorders, especially concerning affective disorders, the part elimination of the concept of neurosis, and the functional psychoses. The poor definition of delusion is stressed, as is also the concept of schizophreniform psychosis, so different from Langfeldt's concept. The need for a broadening of the concept of reactive psychoses is underlined. Comparisons between ICD-8 and DSM-III are presented from two research materials from Gaustad Hospital (Opjordsmoen, Dahl). The major problems are personality disorders, major depressive disorders, schizophreniform disorders, paranoid disorders, but especially reactive psychoses.
