Abstract
Child psychiatry deals with diagnosis and treatment among children and adolescents with mental disorders. Although child psychiatry is in its infancy in Iceland with regard to the service given and the activity in research and teaching, it has developed somewhat in the country during the past three decades. For the first decade it was only concerned with an outpatient service at a child guidance clinic. During the past two decades an in- and out-patient service has been developed in connection with The University Hospital, and during the past 5-10 years valuable scientific research in the field of study has been carried out.
