Isozyme specific drug oxidation: Genetic polymorphism and drug-drug interactions

Pages 21-26 | Published online: 12 Jul 2009

Abstract

Cytochrome P450 denotes a group of heme proteins which catalyse the oxidation of numerous drugs and other chemicals. For six drug-metabolizing P450s one or more drugs as substrate have been identified. Variability in elimination and drug-drug interactions can be predicted if the overall metabolism of a drug can be assigned to a single well-characterized P450.
