Abstract

Dysthymia has been cited in the psychiatric literature since the late 1800s but has been subject to important conceptual changes in recent years. These changes have, in turn, led to a gradual shift in the approach to treatment of dysthymia and to a slow increase in the recognition of the serious and disabling nature of the condition. In this review we describe the current concept of dysthymia.
