Distortion of racial identity in schizophrenia

Abstract

A Scandinavian male schizophrenic patient with a psychotic delusion of belonging to the black race is described. He is the first patient described in the literature who had a delusion of belonging to a racial minority. The mechanisms and background of this distortion of identity are discussed.
