Separation of Viable from Non-Viable Tumor Cells Using Ficoll-Hypaque Density Solution

Abstract

Separation of viable from non-viable human tumor cells was performed by differential flotation on Ficoll-Hypaque specific density solution. A significant purification of viable cell population was achieved, although the total yield was limited. Because viable tumor cells are more active imunologically than non-viable cells, in terms of stimulating blastogenesis among autologous lymphocytes, detection of tumor immunity and recognition in human solid tumors may improve.
