Immunological Responses to Sheep Red Blood Cells in Experimentally Induced Chronic Uremia of Rats

Abstract

Response to primary and secondary injections of sheep red blood cells (SRBC) is lover in rats with severe chronic uremia than in sham-operated controls. The onset and duration of serum antibody responses are similar, but the hemagglutinin and hemolysin titers reached are lower in uremic rats. The numbers of antibody-forming cells (APC) in the spleen are significantly lower in uremic rats after both primary and secondary stimuli. Similarly, the increase in activity of thymidine kinase in the spleen after immunization is lower in rats with chronic renal failure.
