Abstract
The effect of chemical fixation on FLA cells was determined. Formaldehyde-fixed cells lost 40%, and glutaralde-hyde-fixed cells 50% of their capacity to bind radiolabeled antibody at concentrations that were a hundred-fold less than that required to rigidly fix the cell membrane so as to resist hypotonic swelling. No further loss of antibody binding specificity occurred at higher concentrations of the fixatives.
