Absence of Disulfide Bridges Between Heavy and Light Chains in IgA from Chicken Bile

Abstract

IgA purified from chicken bile readily dissociates into polymeric α-chains and light chain dimers and monomers, under the influence of 5 M guanidine or 8 M urea at acid pH. Chicken serum IgG and IgM do not behave similarly. The structure of chicken biliary IgA thus resembles that of human IgA2 (Am2+) molecules.
