Sir; Human periodontitis is a disease caused by some bacterial infections. In etiopathogene-sis, the role of disturbed local and systemic immunoregulatory mechanisms have drawn the attention. Down-regulation of local T-suppressor cells was commented as the cause of enhanced local immunoglobulin production (1). Defective neutrophil functions and local increase of NK cells was also accepted as an important contribution to tissue destruction in periodontitis (2). The presence of microbial antigens in subgingival area and determination of specific antibody response to these antigens are important findings for the differential diagnosis and the decision of treatment in periodontal diseases (3).
