Abstract

The procedure for fabrication of an implant-supported auricular prosthesis is described. Treatment is started during the preparatory phase of the surgical procedure because a favorable position of the implants for the epithesis must be chosen at that stage. The fabrication of an epilhesis requires close collaboration among the prosthodontist, the maxillofacial technician, and the patient. First, a suprastructure is fabricated on the implants. It consists mostly of rings and a bar connecting the implants. The base of the epithesis consists of hard acrylic resin, which contains clips that provide the retention for the epithesis. The epithesis itself consists of silicone rubber. Great care must be taken in shaping and coloring the epithesis.
