Abstract

Purpose: To report spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT) findings in acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE).

Design: Prospective, observational case report.

Methods: Complete ophthalmologic examination, including fluorescein angiography and SD OCT.

Results: A 31-year-old female with APMPPE presented with large intraretinal cysts in the outer nuclear layer consistent with intraretinal edema on SD OCT. Spontaneous normalization of the gross anatomy of the fovea with disruption of the inner/outer photoreceptor segment junction was observed in both eyes.

Conclusion: The findings show that massive intraretinal edema may occur in the early stages of APMPPE.
