Abstract
We should all congratulate the organizers for their great sense of timing. This conference takes place in the midst of one of the most heated debates about oral contraceptives (OCs) that we have had over the past 20 years. I know cynics might say that there are so many conferences nowadays that whatever calamity happens in medlcine there is bound to be a conference (on that topic) soon. Nevertheless, the organizers had the remonition that it was time to look at old problems with new insights, and I was asked to look at the previous papers and dscussions from the 1989 conference.
